Who is Mahj 101 for?

Our American Mahjong lessons are designed for brand-new players, returning players, and social groups looking for a fun, approachable way to learn the game. Whether you prefer a private in-home lesson, a small group class, or a hosted Mahjong event, we offer flexible learning options to match every skill level and learning style.


From casual beginner classes to hosted Mahjong events, we make learning American Mahjong in the Charlotte area engaging, social, and easy to follow.

What's included in Mahj 101?

What You’ll Learn:

  • Brief history of American Mahjong
  • Tile identification and terminology
  • Table etiquette and standard game flow
  • How to read and understand the National Mahjongg League card
  • Steps to dealing and play sequences.
  • Practice building and winning lines

Do I need my own tiles?

Not for this class! Charlotte Mahjong will provide all the tiles necessary for you to enjoy and learn the game. We are not exclusive tile promoters. We believe in promoting unique artists and various Mahjong companies. Tiles should be reflective of a players personality.
